What We Believe
About God – We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This triune God created and sustains all things, is infinite, almighty, perfect in love and holiness, and is worthy of our honor and praise. (Genesis 1:26, Genesis 11:7; Deuteronomy 6:4; Luke 3:21-22; John 1:1-2, 14, 18; Hebrews 1:8-9; Revelation 22:3)
About the Bible – We believe this God has revealed himself and his plan for his creation through the great narrative that is the Bible. This collection of 66 books by some 40 authors spanning over 1600 years is the divinely inspired Word of God, is trustworthy and without error in the original writings, and is the final authority in all things pertaining to faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16; Deuteronomy 4:2; Deuteronomy 12:32; Proverbs 30:5-6; 2 Peter 1:21; Revelation 22:18)
About Creation – We believe that God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them both visible and invisible by the power of his word – and it was very good. At the crown of creation he created man, both male and female, in his own image and gave them dominion over all the earth. (Genesis 1-2)
About the Fall of Man – We believe that though he enjoyed perfect fellowship with his creator, his wife, and all creation, man tempted by Satan rebelled against God and plunged his line and all of creation into the curse of bondage to sin and death. Because of sin all people are spiritually dead, separated from their creator, lost and without hope, and are wholly unable to return to God apart from the saving work of Christ alone. (Genesis 3:1-6; Romans 3:10-18, 22-23, 5:12; Ephesians 2:1–3, 12)
About the Gospel – We believe that the gospel is Jesus Christ – his life, death, resurrection. Jesus came as a man to live a sinless life as our perfect example. His crucifixion and death was a substitute, an atoning sacrifice to propitiate the righteous wrath of God against our sins. His resurrection is the power of the gospel, through it he conquered sin and death and now sits at the right hand of the father interceding on our behalf. There is no other mediator between God and man – Jesus is the only name by which man can be saved. (Isaiah 53:1-12; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 2:17; Colossians 2:13-15; Hebrews 7:25; 1 Peter 2:24)
About Salvation – We believe that salvation is the free gift of God’s grace by faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ and cannot be earned by any merit or work that man can accomplish. We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin and draws those who are being saved to faith in Jesus Christ and repentance through the proclamation of the gospel. Those who have faith in Jesus are brought from death to life, born again, by the power of the Holy Spirit, who places them into the body of Christ, seals them, and dwells within them empowering them to live a life of faith for the glory of God. We believe that the redeemed are secured in their salvation and kept forever by the power of God. (Ephesians 2:8–10; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18–19; John 16:8–11; 1 Corinthians 12:12–14; Ephesians 1:13; Titus 3:5; John 6:37–40; 10:27–30; Romans 8:1, 38, 39; 1 Peter 1:5)
About the Holy Spirit – We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer and gives them supernatural gifts for the building up of the body of Christ and the work of God’s kingdom in this world. We believe that all of the gifts of the Spirit are at work in the church today and should be desired and exercised in accordance with the scriptures. We do not believe in any particular gift as essential for or a sign of salvation or the indwelling of the Spirit. (Acts 1:8; Romans 12:1-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7, 11, 13; Ephesians 4:7–8; 1 Corinthians 13; 1 Peter 4:10–11)
About the Church – We believe that the church is the body of Christ made up of all born again believers. All believers in accordance with the scriptures should gather together in a local congregation for the worship of God, teaching of the scriptures, the building up and encouragement of the body for the work of the ministry, and prayer. We believe in the ordinances of believers baptism, as sign of a believers death to the former life and their being united with Christ is his death burial and resurrection, and the Lord’s supper which is the remembrance of the atoning work of Christ on the cross. We believe in the autonomy of the local church. (Ephesians 1:22, 23; 1 Corinthians 12:12–14; Acts 14:27; 18:22; 20:17; Acts 13:1–4; 1 Corinthians 3:9, 16; 1 Corinthians 5:4–7, 13; 1 Peter 5:1–4; Acts 2:41, 42; Acts 18:8; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26)
About Restoration – We believe that Jesus will one day return in glory and power to judge the living and the dead. He will establish a new heaven and new earth over which He will reign and the redeemed will live forever in eternal peace and joy worshiping the King. (John 14:1-3; 2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 11:18)
