In the past year, I’ve been challenged as a Children Ministries Director to implement a curriculum that teaches kids how to defend themselves and the Word of God in the world. I’ve seen the importance of showing them how the Bible connects to the real world and is not just “stories” that bring a sense of fantasy, but are a reality.

There is a challenge to be able to bring these accounts of history to life when most curriculum’s are cartoon images. One of the major objectives to help students make a link between their faith and fact is teaching Bible history. Use real maps, real artifacts or pictures of these artifacts. As a teacher/parent, we must take responsibility and be ready to bring up real life questions that link to the Bible. Be prepared!

I’ve found that there is a great importance of teaching the Word of God and providing appropriate activities for the children at church, although that is only one piece of the puzzle. At Mosaic, we provide the children with a take home activity. This activity has the main idea, weekly verse, discussion questions, and an activity for the child to do with their family. This piece is so important because it provides a daily opportunity for the child to recall what they are learning and for the parent to use teachable moments throughout the week. I know that several families do their discussion questions at the dinner table and it has produced some in depth conversations.

This past year has challenged me, and I now challenge you to think through how you are communicating God’s Word to your children. Are you equipping them with the tools to develop their faith in the world they live in?

Julie Southwick
Mosaic, Children’s Ministry Director

The Early Church frequently gathered together in each others homes. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42). In a world of constant change and technological advancement, we at Mosaic believe the Early Church was on to something.

That’s why our community groups are geared towards the most basic concepts of fellowship and community. We make it a habit to get together (Hebrews 10:25), to share a meal (Acts 2:42), to read scripture (James 1:22), to pray together (James 5:16), and simply share in each other’s lives.

At Mosaic, our community groups are not viewed as actual community in and of itself, but rather a vehicle through which God can bring us together in commonality. Join us as we journey life together!

We currently have two groups that are meeting in the North & West Valley every other Thursday night at 6:30pm. Please email us or call for directions to one of our gatherings: communities@mosaicarizona.org (623) 252-2506.

You no doubt are aware of the great loss and need existing in Haiti as a result of the recent earthquakes.

You no doubt are aware of the great loss and need existing in Haiti as a result of the recent earthquakes. This impoverished country and its people are important to God and to us. As a church we are responding in several ways.

Pray
Our Mosaic Communities will be meeting on Thursday, January 21st to pray specifically for the crisis in Haiti. While we encourage you to pray with us corporately on the 21st, we also ask that over the coming days and weeks you set apart time as families to pray with your kids and spouses, and as individuals during your daily devotional time and throughout the day.

Give
It is beyond belief how much has been destroyed and how many lives were lost. There are organizations already established to best utilize financial donations for maximum impact in disaster relief scenarios. So we at Mosaic are encouraging you to give to Samaritan’s Purse work in helping Haiti quake victims. All money given will be directed to the people and recovery of Haiti. If you feel compelled to give please designate a check and we will send it all to Samaritan’s Purse.

If you are interested in offering additional support we recommend you investigate contributing directly to the following agencies:

* Samaritian’s Purse // (828) 262-1980 // www.samaritanspurse.org

Rather than treating missions as an event, we recognize our duty to be lifelong purveyors of the Gospel who seek to engage others and deliver the message of Salvation and Reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:20) found only in Christ.

In Acts 1:8, Jesus said to us, “you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”. These four spheres of missions translate into our personal community (Jerusalem), our nation (Judea), cultures differing from ours (Samaria) and the rest of humanity (the ends of the earth).”

At Mosaic, it is our desire to live this out practically. Rather than treating missions as an event, we recognize our duty to be lifelong purveyors of the Gospel who seek to engage others and deliver the message of Salvation and Reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:20) found only in Christ.

This means connecting with our friends, neighbors, coworkers, our fellow countrymen, communities with different cultures, as well as physically traveling to the farthest corners of the world. Our lives have been transformed by the Gospel and we cannot help but express this transformation to everyone, daily.

Missions 2010

We currently are looking into the details of trips to Thailand, Mexico & Hungary/Ukraine next summer!

At Mosaic we care a great deal about families and kids. Our Children’s Ministry is an interactive, fun and safe environment where children can learn about Jesus and apply the gospel in a way that is relevant to their lives and development.

Nursery (0-18 months)

Totally Toddlers (18 months – preschool)
We have begun a new curriculum called Under the Sea. In Under the Sea, we teach the children how to worship God, how to pray, and introduce basic Bible stories for their age level. We will hear stories, play games, eat snacks, and make crafts to reinforce the Bible lessons.

Elementary (Kindergarten – 1st grade) and (2nd – 5th grade)
At Mosaic we have developed an elementary-aged discipleship program which enables kids to form a sense of community, build a closer relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and worship. In the Jungle (Kindergarten – 1st grade) & Konnect (2nd- 5th grade) programs are designed to empower each child with the support, passion and tools to be a world changer.

If you have questions or would like to volunteer in children’s ministry please email kids@mosaicarizona.org

* Mosaic wants to keep your child healthy as much as you do. Because of this we cannot accept children that are sick into class. If your child has a runny nose, a cold less than a week old, diarrhea, cough, rash, or any other illness, we request that you not place your child in the Children’s Ministry until they are not at risk of exposing other children to illness. This will help us keep our Children’s Ministry a fun, safe and healthy place to worship.

We desire that like God’s mosaic, our church would be culturally diverse with an emphasis on the transformation of peoples lives through the teachings of Jesus! And that God’s glory would shine through us to the city of Phoenix!

Currently, we are meeting at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (1212 E. Glendale) on Sunday evenings at 5:30pm. For more information you can contact us at info@mosaicarizona.org
